· Skim through the newspaper and internet and write down the titles of the jobs you would like. · Have a look at the types of companies or industries that have those jobs. · Look at the selection criteria for those types of jobs—e.g. qualifications, experience required, skill sets and other information in the advertisements. · Sit down and rank the jobs in terms of your current situation—which ones do you suit now and which ones will you have to work towards in the future. · Talk to people who are in those jobs and industries to see if they can help you. · Use the internet for research . · Match your resume and cover letter to the specific job for which you are applying. · Have a go. You will never know whether you will get the job or not unless you apply and it won’t cost you anything to apply. · Jobs aren't necessarily for life so sometimes you may need to go backwards or sideways to get ahead. · Impress your boss, he could be your next referee or the person who promotes you. · Millionaires have to start somewhere. Look outside of the square if you are unhappy. |
